These shamanic journeys are similar in form to a guided meditation. I will guide you through the process of going deep into your inner world and invite you to do various things. There is never anything that is in violation of your free will. You are entirely free to disregard any part of this and to do any variation that pleases you.
A shamanic journey is an interface between your conscious mind and your body-mind and your Higher Mind. We use the technique of imagining ourselves in a beautiful garden. This garden can be recalled from memory or it can be entirely made up; it doesn't matter. In this garden we then see something, hear something, and touch something. From there we go off on whatever adventure is at hand.
We work with both kinds of imagination on these journeys. We use an active imagination to create the scene we want to be in. Then we state how we would like to proceed from there and allow our passive imagination to take it from there. In this way we can define how our "conversation" will take place. The conscious mind decides what it wants to do or know, and the body-mind and the Higher Mind respond in some fashion in alignment with the scenario we've set forth. The body-mind and the Higher Mind work more with images, symbols, and non-verbal insights primarily. Words may come but it often doesn't happen that way. If you ask a question, and you can ask as many questions as you like, you will get an answer. You may not be ready or willing to hear that answer, and it may take some deeper relaxation to open to it, but it is there for you. And if you don't understand the answer, you can always say so and ask for clarification.
These journeys only work when we are deeply relaxed. They are also about feeling very good and having fun. If you fall asleep, that's just fine. Have a good nap! But do try again. Not everyone is prepared to go deep within themselves at first and it may take some patience to relax enough. And not everyone sees things the same way. You may get great visions or you may see nothing at all and have only impressions. Whatever your experience is, it is just fine as it is. You're playing in the imaginal world, but the inner experience is quite real.
